Upper-Year Mentoring Program

Network with industry professionals and fellow students as you expand your knowledge of the engineering profession.

The Upper-Year Mentoring Program is open to undergraduate students in their second year or higher and graduate students. Students will be matched with another student as well as with an engineer from industry or academia that works in a related discipline. Benefits include:

  • building a professional network with industry professionals and student peers;
  • gaining knowledge about the engineering profession;
  • developing your own mentoring and leadership skills through the informal peer-to-peer mentoring component of the program;
  • getting involved with the Faculty of Applied Science and professional societies such as the Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia and the Division for the Advancement of Women in Engineering & Geoscience; and
  • developing and reflecting on your career goals.

Expectations

Your involvement will span the academic year, from September through April, and will require about 15 hours of your time over the year. You are expected to:

  • attend two program events and an industry event of your choice;
  • meet with your group at least three times over the course of the academic year;
  • develop learning objectives with your mentor, review them periodically throughout the program and complete a program-end assessment on your learning;
  • agreeing to and abiding by the Mentoring Agreement and Code of Conduct.
